Bug ID 1505881: Delay in DNS responses due to control-plane load impacting the GLSB performance

Last Modified: Sep 24, 2024

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP TMOS(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
15.1.9, 15.1.9.1, 15.1.10, 15.1.10.2, 15.1.10.3, 15.1.10.4, 15.1.10.5

Opened: Feb 09, 2024

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

Sometimes there is a delay in DNS response, exceeding 3 seconds. Correlation is observed between performance degradation of GLSB and increased load on other control-plane daemons. Mitigation attempts using the renice command to adjust GLSB daemon (gtmd) process priority resulted in improved delays, suggesting a link between control-plane CPU load and GLSB performance.

Impact

Impact on traffic performance

Conditions

Increased load on control-plane daemons. GLSB service running alongside other control-plane services.

Workaround

Increasing the priority of the gtmd processes using the renice command is mitigating the issue. The user has used the following renice command. renice -n -5 -p `pidof gtmd`
