Symptoms

- Memory corruption in shared memory regions (bcCacheIndex and bcCacheEnd) during BrightCloud database cache loading - Large and invalid differences between cache index values cause crashes or undefined behavior in URL categorization processes

Impact

Memory corruption leads to out-of-bounds memory access, resulting in crashes or unpredictable system behavior during URL categorization lookups

Conditions

Occurs during database cache loading into shared memory regions, either due to pre-existing corruption or invalid data loads

Workaround

The issue is resolved by adding integrity validation checks to the shared memory reuse process and the database cache loading cycle
