Bug ID 2567377: Higher control plane CPU usage from the ASM JavaScript obfuscator after upgrade

Last Modified: Oct 09, 2026

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP ASM(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
17.1.3.5, 17.5.1.9, 21.1.0.2

Opened: Oct 08, 2026

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

After you upgrade, control plane CPU usage is higher during the period each day when the system generates obfuscated JavaScript. The Java process that runs compiler.jar uses about twice as much CPU as before, and the high CPU period lasts longer

Impact

Control plane CPU usage is about twice as high as expected while the system generates obfuscated JavaScript. This can last several hours each day and can trigger high CPU alerts

Conditions

One of these is attached to a virtual server: - A Bot Defense profile - A DoS profile with client-side defense or CAPTCHA challenge enabled

Workaround

On each BIG-IP system, run this command: sed -i 's/ReservedCodeCacheSize=16m/ReservedCodeCacheSize=64m/' /var/datasync/datasyncd_obfuscator The change takes effect the next time the system generates obfuscated JavaScript. A restart is not needed An upgrade overwrites this file. Run the command again after you upgrade to a version that does not have the fix
