Opened: Aug 07, 2017

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

Loading the configuration fails with an error similar to the following: Data Input Error:(/config/bigip.conf at line: <line>) A value must be provided for the "interval" attribute when creating "periodic" This occurs when you manually load the configuration, when you restore a UCS archive, and when the system boots

Impact

The configuration fails to load. Restoring a UCS archive fails

Conditions

- An iCall periodic handler is configured. - The handler interval is set to 1 second, which is the default value. - The configuration is saved and then loaded. Note: the interval is also set to 1 when a REST PUT request omits the interval property, because an omitted property is reset to its default value.

Workaround

Set the interval to a value other than 1: tmsh modify sys icall handler periodic <handler_name> interval 2 tmsh save sys config This is the recommended workaround. Because the running configuration holds a non-default value, the interval is written to the configuration file each time the configuration is saved If you must keep the interval at 1, you can instead edit /config/bigip.conf and add an interval line to each affected iCall periodic handler: sys icall handler periodic /Common/<handler_name> { interval 1 script /Common/<script_name> } Important: saving the configuration after making this edit removes the line again, and the configuration does not load. Only edit the file when you do not intend to save the configuration afterward, such as immediately before a reboot
