Bug ID 1020533: Selecting Fundamental Policy Template prevents Parent Policy type selection

Last Modified: Jun 19, 2025

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IQ Web App Security (ASM)(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
8.0.0.1

Opened: May 21, 2021

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

When creating a new Web Application Security Policy, if the Policy Template is set to Fundamental, the Policy Type will be set to Security Policy and locked to that option, preventing the selection of the Parent Policy policy type.

Impact

Unable to select Parent Policy as the policy type since the policy type section is locked and greyed out.

Conditions

1. Create new Web Application Security Policy 2. Change Policy Template from default (Rapid Deployment Policy) to Fundamental

Workaround

The Fundamental policy template has an Application Language of Auto-Detect and Parent Policies cannot have Auto-Detect as the Application Language selection. To create a Parent Policy using the Fundamental policy template another Application Language, like Unicode (utf-8) must be selected. 1. Create new Web Application Security Policy 2. Change Policy Template from default (Rapid Deployment Policy) to Fundamental 3. Select the desired Application Language (all values except "Auto-Detect") 4. Select the desired Policy Type
