Opened: Jul 22, 2021
Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

REST Requests are intermittently failing with a 401 error. The restjavad-audit.*.log shows these requests are closely preceded by a 503 response from /mgmt/tm/auth/source.

Impact

REST requests will fail with a misleading response code and for no readily apparent reason.

Conditions

Triggered when a REST request comes in using Basic Auth while an asynchronous task is executing on the BIG-IP. An example of an asynchronous task is the BIG-IP processing an AS3 declaration.

Workaround

Use token based authentication for REST requests.
