Bug ID 1167873: The MachineTunnel and Edge-Client are stuck during tunnel initialization state when system restored from sleep

Last Modified: Apr 28, 2025

Affected Product(s):
APM-Clients APM(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
7.2.3

Fixed In:
7.2.4, 7.2.3.1

Opened: Oct 07, 2022

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

During the sleep or hibernate state, the session expires either due to an inactivity timeout or session life timeout. Once the system resumes, it tries to connect APM BIG-IP virtual server with the same session and fails as the session is invalid. Retries happen 10 times.

Impact

The user needs to wait for some minutes after the system comes out of sleep or hibernate state.

Conditions

When the VPN session expires during the sleep or hibernation state.

Workaround

For the MachineTunnel, stop and start the service. For Edge-Client, terminate the Edge-Client process and relaunch.

Fix Information

When the system was restored from sleep, Edge Client tried to establish the connection using the existing session for indefinite times in case of failures. This issue is fixed, and now the default maximum retry count is limited to 10. After reaching the maximum retry limit, Edge Client starts the new session. To customize the number of reconnection tries, the user needs to add a DWORD value "ReconnectFailureRetrialCounter" in the registry, either at "HKCU\SOFTWARE\F5 Networks\RemoteAccess" or "HKLM\SOFTWARE\F5 Networks\RemoteAccess".
