Bug ID 1917809: BIOS boot may be much slower than normal, if Full Disk Encryption (FDE) is enabled and the BIOS cannot communicate with the configured KMIP servers

Last Modified: Jan 07, 2026

Affected Product(s):
F5OS AFM(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
F5OS-A 1.8.2, F5OS-A 1.8.3

Opened: Apr 02, 2025

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

It may take up to 50 minutes for the BIOS to finish booting and display the BIOS banner. The BIOS will still display the normal sequence of POST codes on the serial console, but it may pause at POST code 92 for much longer than normal. (Note that when all KMIP servers are unreachable, by design the drives will remain locked and the system will not boot to F5OS. This is intended behavior and ensures the security of data stored on the drives.)

Impact

BIOS boot may be much slower than normal.

Conditions

-- Devices with Full Disk Encryption (FDE) enabled. -- Booting the system. This issue may occur if FDE is enabled and the local management IP, subnet mask, or gateway is misconfigured (for example, if the gateway is outside of the subnet). It may also occur if FDE is enabled and the configured KMIP servers repeatedly do not respond to connection attempts (for example, if a network partition causes the KMIP servers to be unreachable).
