Bug ID 1933877: OpenShift 3.11 Control Plane Memory Growth on Controllers (master-api/master-controllers)

Last Modified: Sep 07, 2026

Affected Product(s):
F5OS Velos(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
F5OS-C 1.8.0, F5OS-C 1.8.1, F5OS-C 1.8.2, F5OS-C 1.8.2-HR1, F5OS-C 1.8.2-HR2

Opened: May 01, 2025

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

Over time, controller memory utilization steadily increases due to growth in OpenShift 3.11 control-plane processes (openshift start master api and openshift start master controllers). Initially, the Chassis and pods generally remain operational. However, prolonged uptime can lead to elevated load, reduced performance margin, and eventual need for controller reboot to reclaim memory.

Impact

Steady rise in the memory usage of the controller and higher sustained system load over time.

Conditions

The issue occurs during normal long-running operation on systems using embedded OpenShift 3.11 control-plane components. As uptime increases (days to weeks), the openshift start master api and openshift start master controllers processes exhibit gradual RSS memory growth.

Workaround

Perform a controller reboot to temporarily reclaim memory.
