Bug ID 2185937: image2disk --format=volumes intermittently fails due to HDD device name change between MOS and TMOS

Last Modified: Dec 23, 2025

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP Install/Upgrade, LTM(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
17.1.1, 17.1.1.1, 17.1.1.2, 17.1.1.3, 17.1.1.4, 17.1.2, 17.1.2.1, 17.1.2.2, 17.1.3, 17.5.0, 17.5.1, 17.5.1.2, 17.5.1.3

Opened: Dec 15, 2025

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

The image2disk --format=volumes command fails intermittently when run from TMOS. The failure occurs because the HDD device name changes between MOS and TMOS across different reboots (e.g., sdd instead of sda), causing image2disk to not locate the expected volume and incorrectly assume RAID configuration

Impact

Device reimaging may fail, leading to operational delays or misconfiguration.

Conditions

Reproducible when the HDD is assigned a different device name after rebooting between MOS and TMOS environments.
