Opened: May 26, 2026 Severity: 2-Critical
On FIPS-enabled iSeries appliances, BIG-IP v17.5.1.6 may fail to install. The installation status displayed by the tmsh show sys software status command may appear as follows: ``` Sys::Software Status Volume Product Version Build Active Status Allowed Version ... MD1.3 BIG-IP 17.5.1.6 0.0.25 no failed (Failed to install.) yes ... On non-FIPS iSeries appliances, the installation of BIG-IP v17.5.1.6 may succeed. However, after booting into the new installation, users may be unable to log in to the device console via SSH. For additional details, refer to KB article K000161170.
Unable to install BIG-IP v17.5.1.6 on FIPS-enabled iSeries appliances. Unable to log in to the device console via SSH to administer the device through the command-line interface.
BIG-IP v17.5.1.6 installation may fail on iSeries appliances with an onboard FIPS HSM. On other iSeries appliances, users may be unable to log in to the device console via SSH after installing BIG-IP v17.5.1.6.
Refer to KB article K000161170: For FIPS-enabled iSeries appliances (with an onboard FIPS HSM), follow Option B. For all other systems, apply an engineering hotfix addressing ID2296269.
The /usr volume is now sized correctly, enabling the successful installation of the current BIG-IP version on FIPS-enabled iSeries appliances and allowing successful console login via SSH after installation on other devices.
The /usr mount point size requirement increased in version 17.5.1.6 due to an increase in the apmclients package size. The size of each installed volume has been extended by 1.5GB, specifically by increasing the /usr allocation. Since the system does not increase the overall disk size but reallocates space to /usr, the available disk space for other purposes will be proportionately reduced.
