Bug ID 2567745: MCPD restart loop becomes unrecoverable after prolonged cycling, requiring full system reboot

Last Modified: Oct 16, 2026

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP TMOS(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
21.0.0, 21.0.0.1, 21.0.0.2, 21.0.0.3, 21.1.0, 21.1.0.1, 21.1.0.2, 21.1.0.3

Opened: Oct 09, 2026

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

After approximately 30 minutes of repeated configuration-load failures, MCPD may begin failing immediately during startup with the following message: 01070004:3: Can't connect to database, mco_runtime_start failed, status code: 80 - EdbDbConnection.cpp, line 473, status:0

Impact

- MCPD remains in a persistent restart loop, preventing normal configuration loading and management operations - Correcting the original configuration trigger alone does not restore operation - A device reboot is required for the demonstrated recovery

Conditions

- A full configuration load from text files encounters a large CLI shell script in `/config/bigip_script.conf` - MCPD repeatedly exits with database memory-allocation errors, including `Can't write blob data, attribute:script status:52` - The restart loop continues for approximately 30 minutes, or 90–95 restarts, before transitioning to status 80

Workaround

- Stop MCPD to halt the restart loop: bigstart stop mcpd - Correct the original configuration issue. For example, back up the configuration and remove or reduce the oversized CLI script in `/config/bigip_script.conf`. - Reboot the device: reboot After rebooting, verify that MCPD starts successfully and the configuration loads without errors.
