Last Modified: Jul 12, 2023

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP WAM, WOM(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
11.4.0, 11.4.1

Fixed In:
11.5.0, 11.4.1 HF4, 11.4.0 HF6

Opened: Sep 11, 2013

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

TMM may assert. The datastor log shows messages of ipc_endpt_limit: Assertion `cpus > 0 && cpus <= MPI_NADDR', and TMOS restarts continuously.

Impact

Repeated crashes of TMOS, making the virtual machine unusable.

Conditions

Provisioning more than 8 processing units for a VE. The default installation of the datastor libraries and process is limited to supporting no more than 8 processing units, and if a virtual is created with more than that, the processes that use or talk to datastor will report an error and quit.

Workaround

Reduce number of processing units to be 8 or less, or manually replace the datastor small installation with datastor large.

Fix Information

When installing a vADC instance, care should be taken to make sure that the virtual machine has no more than 8 processing units if the intent is to run AAM. The default installation of the datastor libraries and process is limited to supporting no more than 8 processing units, and if a virtual is created with more than that, the processes that use or talk to datastor will report an error and quit.
