Bug ID 444690: Low performance of VE guests with SR-IOV interfaces

Last Modified: Nov 07, 2022

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP MA-VE(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
11.5.0, 11.5.1, 11.5.1 HF1, 11.5.1 HF10, 11.5.1 HF11, 11.5.1 HF2, 11.5.1 HF3, 11.5.1 HF4, 11.5.1 HF5, 11.5.1 HF6, 11.5.1 HF7, 11.5.1 HF8, 11.5.1 HF9, 11.5.10, 11.5.2, 11.5.2 HF1, 11.5.3, 11.5.3 HF1, 11.5.3 HF2, 11.5.4, 11.5.4 HF1, 11.5.4 HF2, 11.5.4 HF3, 11.5.4 HF4, 11.5.5, 11.5.6, 11.5.7, 11.5.8, 11.5.9

Fixed In:
11.5.0 HF1

Opened: Jan 16, 2014

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

BIG-IP may not be able to its their licensed throughput limit on VE guests with SR-IOV interfaces. In this situation a subset of the guest CPUs will report 100% cpu usage when measured from the command line with the 'top' command.

Impact

Virtual Edition guests with SR-IOV interfaces may exhibit throughput lower than the licensed limit.

Conditions

11.5.0-release VE guests with SR-IOV interfaces on Xen, VMware, and KVM hypervisors.

Workaround

There is no known workaround. Switching an 8-core guest to a 4-core guest may slightly improve throughput.

Fix Information

Scheduler change to support increased throughput for Virtual Edition guests with SR-IOV interfaces
