Symptoms

The 11000 and 11050 platforms might intermittently fail to boot a newly installed hotfix. The symptom occur early in the booting process.

Impact

Installed hotfix fails to boot. The system posts error messages similar to the following: mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root', setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory, setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory, setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory, switchroot: mount failed: Invalid argument, Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

Conditions

The problem occurs only on BIG-IP 11000 and 11050 platforms. In addition, only a subset of hotfixes for 11.3.0, 11.4.0, 11.4.1, and 11.5.0 are affected. The issue does not occur on any dot-level release builds.

Workaround

None. You must install a hotfix containing the fix.

Fix Information

The 11000 and 11050 platforms now boot correctly with updated hotfixes. You can check the associated hotfix notes to ensure the fix is incorporated.
