Opened: Mar 20, 2014

Severity: 4-Minor

Symptoms

The BIG-IP system accepts invalid regex syntax in cache include / exclude / include-override / pin-list entries list. TMM presents an error saying 'that regex is invalid!'. Entries such as '*.js' are treated as globs (e.g., that matches a URI that ends in '.js', and causes it to be cached).

Impact

Error message indicating that the regex is not valid. Beginning with version 9.2.0, the system provided support for globbing in patterns in regex syntax, using (?#glob) to select such behavior. However, the operations actually glob anytime regex compilation fails. If the glob mark is not present, the system attempts to compile the regex, but leaves the string in the array, even when compilation fails. This results in a regex compilation warning in the log, and globbing behavior in the pattern match.

Conditions

This occurs when using '?#glob' in cache include / exclude / include-override / pin-list entries list.
