Bug ID 453700: AWS: GBB AMI generates core after reboot

Last Modified: Sep 13, 2023

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP MA-VE(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
11.6.2 HF1

Fixed In:
11.5.1 HF5, 11.5.0

Opened: Mar 24, 2014

Severity: 2-Critical

Symptoms

Sometimes BIG-IP VE (running inside Amazon AWS) in a high availability (HA) might crash due to low memory condition.

Impact

VE uses the JVM (Java) module for HA. Due to default JVM settings, if JVM starts before TMM, TMM crashes because it does not have enough memory for its initialization.

Conditions

This occurs on BIG-IP VE configurations running inside Amazon AWS environment.

Workaround

None.

Fix Information

Changed JVM default settings to use less memory and allow TMM to acquire needed memory during its startup.
