Symptoms

Hardware compression might cause excessive memory consumption and eventual tmm crash as it exhausts available memory.

Impact

tmm crashes, drops core, high memory consumption indicated. Traffic disrupted while tmm restarts.

Conditions

This occurs on the BIG-IP 2000s/2200s (C112) and 4000s/4200v (C113) platforms using hardware compression being used with greatly varying payload (xbuf) lengths directed at compression.

Workaround

Do not use hardware compression.

Fix Information

Interface to hardware compression has improved allocation strategy.
