Symptoms

HSB bitfile might be quarantined. A warning message similar to the following appears in the ltm log: HSBE2 - main Version 1.8.12.2 is in quarantine. (Remove /shared/fwmgr/hsbe2_quarantine to retry HSB bitstream update) This error is the result of an earlier failed attempt to update the HSB bitstream to the version required by the running BIG-IP software version.

Impact

The system writes messages to the ltm log indicating that the HSB bitfile is quarantined, the HSB bitfile is not updated to the version required by the running BIG-IP software version, and the BIG-IP system cannot pass traffic.

Conditions

1. Boot BIG-IP 10000-series appliance from affected BIG-IP versions. 2. Boot BIG-IP 10000-series appliance from another version of BIG-IP after having booted from one of the affected BIG-IP versions.

Workaround

Remove the file /shared/fwmgr/hsbe2_quarantine and reboot the system.

Fix Information

This release has a longer timeout for activating the new HSB bitfile after reboot, so the HSB bitfile-quarantined issue does not occur, and you can successfully boot from affected BIG-IP versions.
