Bug ID 465714: TMM may restart when enabling debug ACCESS logging

Last Modified: Apr 28, 2025

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP TMOS(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
11.6.1, 11.6.1 HF1, 11.6.1 HF2, 11.6.2, 11.6.2 HF1, 11.6.3, 11.6.3.1, 11.6.3.2, 11.6.3.3, 11.6.3.4, 11.6.4, 11.6.5, 11.6.5.1, 11.6.5.2, 11.6.5.3

Fixed In:
12.0.0

Opened: Jun 05, 2014

Severity: 2-Critical

Symptoms

TMM crash with no core file. The APM log might contain messages similar to the following: err tmm1[24693]: 01490514:3: 00000000: Access encountered error: ERR_CONN. File: ../modules/hudfilter/access/access.c, Function: access_register_connflow_for_operation, Line: 20888

Impact

Traffic outage on Active unit. Traffic disrupted while tmm restarts.

Conditions

Heavy traffic with APM and SWG logging set to debug mode via log settings attached to an access profile in use. Note: Although this particular issue is exposed for APM and SWG logging, changing any logging setting to debug when the system is under heavy load is highly discouraged and might result in daemon restarts.

Workaround

None.

Fix Information

Although TMM no longer restarts when enabling debug ACCESS logging using log settings attached to an access profile, the recommended best practice is not to change any logging setting to debug when the system is under heavy load.
