Last Modified: Sep 13, 2023

BIG-IP All(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:

Opened: Jun 19, 2014

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

On BIG-IP 2000, 4000, 5000, 7000, 10000 series platforms platforms configured for high availability (HA) connected via the HA failover cable, if the active unit is powered off; the newly active unit interprets the status from the powered-down unit as 'active'.

Impact

This causes the command 'show cm traffic-group' to erroneously show the status of the powered-down unit as 'active'. In some instances, the newly active unit forces itself to 'Standby' to clear the 'active-active' state. The faulty indication is intermittent and not related to licensing or software version.

Conditions

This occurs when powering down BIG-IP 2000, 4000, 5000, 7000, 10000 series platform HA configurations connected by HA failover cables with device-group/group-type set to sync-failover.

Workaround

Remove cable from powered-down peer.
