Bug ID 469699: License renewal of a PEM-only license removes SNAT functionality

Last Modified: Jul 12, 2023

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP PEM(all modules)

Fixed In:
11.6.0

Opened: Jun 30, 2014

Severity: 1-Blocking

Symptoms

When re-licensing or renewing a PEM standalone license on systems using SNAT configurations, an error could be returned stating SNAT is not licensed. An example error looks like this. 01070356:3: SNAT feature not licensed. Unexpected Error: Loading configuration process failed. The problem presents itself after renewing the license and subsequently loading the configuration using a command such as 'tmsh load sys config'.

Impact

The BIG-IP configuration will no longer load.

Conditions

This only occurs on systems which do not have mod_ltm licensed along with mod_pem in /config/bigip.license. Systems last renewing prior to 7/14/2014 are susceptible to the configuration loading error.

Workaround

Renew the current license using any of the available commands, such as 'tmsh install sys license'. This will retrieve an updated license file from F5 which contains all required SNAT functionality to support PEM.

Fix Information

PEM standalone licenses now support SNAT functionality.
