Opened: Sep 09, 2014

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

CPU utilization on an active device reaches 100% after a series of quick, inter-chassis HA failovers.

Impact

The issue may render the system not-operational. However, the chance for the issue to occur at the customer site under normal operations (HA failovers are infrequent) are low.

Conditions

A substantial number of PEM sessions must be present in the system and a series of inter-chassis HA failovers are enacted in quick succession. If enough time (30-60 min) between HA failovers is afforded, the leaked session indexes are removed by CPPE before CPU utilization becomes a problem.

Workaround

Restart the standby device after each HA failover.
