Bug ID 528677: In catalina.out file, various 'SEVERE' and possible 'memory leak' messages are associated with tmui

Last Modified: Dec 07, 2023

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP AAM, AFM, APM, CGN, GTM, Link Controller, LTM, PEM, vCMP(all modules)

Opened: Jun 18, 2015

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

When shutting down tmui, memory leak warnings associated with tmui are printed to catalina.out. The messages appear similar to the following: -- SEVERE: The web application [/tmui] registered the JDBC driver [org.hsqldb.jdbcDriver] but failed to unregister it when the web application was stopped. To prevent a memory leak, the JDBC Driver has been forcibly unregistered. -- SEVERE: The web application [/tmui] appears to have started a thread named [Thread-2] but has failed to stop it. This is very likely to create a memory leak.

Impact

Although these messages appear to represent a severe error state, the messages are erroneous, cosmetic, and do not indicate a problem with the system. There are no actual memory leaks as these messages only occur on shutdown

Conditions

These messages occur only when tmui is being shut down, at which time tomcat is also being shut down and memory is being cleared.

Workaround

None needed. This is a cosmetic error.
