Symptoms

On certain platforms, firmware updates might take over 15 minutes to complete. It is very important to wait until update completes. Do not turn on the device until the operation is finished.

Impact

Reboot takes a long time. The GUI posts the following message: Reboot in progress Please do not turn off your device. Depending on your configuration, reboot time will vary, taking 5 to 20 minutes. To view reboot progress, connect to the serial port of your device or access the system hypervisor.

Conditions

This occurs on the following iSeries platforms: i2000, i4000, i5000, i7000, and i10000.

Fix Information

Although reboot takes a long time on the iSeries platforms, the GUI posts a message containing a time range, similar to the following message: Reboot in progress Please do not turn off your device. Depending on your configuration, reboot time will vary, taking 5 to 20 minutes. To view reboot progress, connect to the serial port of your device or access the system hypervisor.
