Bug ID 585798: ICMP errors may cause TMM to segfault

Last Modified: Jul 12, 2023

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP AFM(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
11.6.0, 11.5.3, 11.5.3

Opened: Apr 06, 2016

Severity: 3-Major

Related Article: K57019735

Symptoms

Device cores while processing an ICMPv6 packet. TMM segfaults.

Impact

The system produces a core file. Potential outages. The issue might not have occurred under the same conditions in previous releases, because it is related to memory initialization. However, it is an issue associated with AFM.

Conditions

Incoming ICMP error packet is forwarded after being vetted by the Access Control List. This occurs with AFM provisioned.

Workaround

None. Note: The issue of ICMP errors causing TMM to segfault was indirectly fixed by the changes made for a separate bug: 521774. With the fix from bug 521774, the underlying issue no longer occurs, so AFM does not encounter this memory initialization issue any longer.
