Bug ID 635379: Interruption of ASM policy-syncing after mishandling of internal message

Last Modified: Sep 13, 2023

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP ASM(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
12.1.3, 12.1.3.1, 12.1.3.2, 12.1.3.3, 12.1.3.4, 12.1.3.5, 12.1.3.6, 12.1.3.7, 12.1.4, 12.1.4.1, 12.1.5, 12.1.5.1, 12.1.5.2, 12.1.5.3, 12.1.6, 13.0.0, 13.0.0 HF1, 13.0.0 HF2, 13.0.0 HF3, 13.0.1

Fixed In:
13.1.0

Opened: Dec 21, 2016

Severity: 2-Critical

Symptoms

The asm_config_server_rpc_handler daemon may panic, leaving a core file. The process will be restarted by the system.

Impact

The asm_config_server_rpc_handler works upon only internal information; the resulting brief interruption has no effect on data-plane traffic handling.

Conditions

During some kinds of disruptions of normal processing (for example, an high availability (HA) failover), the control-plane daemon responsible for keeping the ASM policies in sync may mishandle an internal message, triggering an internal logic fault.

Workaround

None known.

Fix Information

The asm daemon no longer cores under these conditions.
