Symptoms

Memory internal to the Broadcom switch can occasionally see a bit get 'flipped' which results in a soft parity error. There is no software to recover from or correct these errors, so the 'parity hardware inconsistency' message is repeatedly logged.

Impact

Logs flooded with 'L2_ENTRY_ONLY parity hardware inconsistency'.

Conditions

A soft parity error occurs in a Broadcom switch internal memory.

Workaround

Restart bcm56xxd or reboot the system.
