Symptoms

A very rare HSB transmitter failure occurs. This is indicated by the following message in the tmm logs: panic: hsb interface 1 DMA lockup on transmitter failure.

Impact

Reboot of the unit.

Conditions

Although the exact conditions for this issue are unknown, this might be related to a 5250 platform or to a configuration containing a vCMP guest.

Workaround

None. Note: Although there is no workaround, beginning in v13.0.0, there is an internal counter that tracks occurrences of these types of HSB transmitter failures, which enables better understanding of the issue and a more thorough investigation into its cause.
