Bug ID 662330: Certain combinations of LTM Policy conditions and actions result in HTTP dependencies

Last Modified: Oct 16, 2023

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP LTM(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
12.1.2, 12.1.3, 12.1.3.1, 12.1.3.2, 12.1.3.3, 12.1.3.4, 12.1.3.5, 12.1.3.6, 12.1.3.7, 12.1.4, 12.1.4.1, 12.1.5, 12.1.5.1, 12.1.5.2, 12.1.5.3, 12.1.6

Opened: May 01, 2017

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

LTM Policies can be used on virtual servers without HTTP profile present. However, on versions up to and including BIG-IP 13.0.0, many of the actions available in LTM Policy are valid only in 'request' and/or 'response' events, corresponding to HTTP_REQUEST and HTTP_RESPONSE, respectively. These events are associated with the HTTP filter, and therefore are valid only on a virtual server with an HTTP profile.

Impact

For a non-HTTP virtual server, attaching an LTM Policy that has actions valid only on HTTP events will not work until an HTTP profile is added to the virtual server.

Conditions

-- Running versions up to and including BIG-IP 13.0.0. -- LTM Policy that is valid only on HTTP events. For example, the action to forward connection to a pool is valid only in HTTP request events.

Workaround

Add HTTP profile to virtual server.
