Bug ID 696678: Monitor probes may fail to be sent to FQDN nodes when DNS responds with an increased number of nodes

Last Modified: Sep 13, 2023

Affected Product(s):
BIG-IP LTM(all modules)

Known Affected Versions:
11.6.1, 11.6.2, 11.6.3, 11.6.3.1, 11.6.3.2, 11.6.3.3, 11.6.3.4, 11.6.4, 11.6.5, 11.6.5.1, 11.6.5.2, 11.6.5.3

Opened: Nov 29, 2017

Severity: 3-Major

Symptoms

FQDN pool member monitor status is not updated and monitor probes are not sent to the FQDN pool member in the case where: FQDN-configured pools are populated with an initial set of nodes returned from a DNS query, and a subsequent DNS response includes a greater number of nodes that include the originally returned node-set. For example, if an initial DNS response populates an FQDN-configured pool with one node, and a subsequent DNS response returns two nodes (including the first node), then monitor probes may fail to be sent to the second FQDN-configured pool member.

Impact

Monitor probes may fail to be sent to the second FQDN-configured pool member. Incorrect FQDN pool member status.

Conditions

-- The configuration has an FQDN-configured pool. -- The DNS server successfully returns one-or-more nodes. -- The DNS server later returns a greater number of nodes, including those nodes previously returned.
