Opened: May 13, 2019
Severity: 4-Minor

Symptoms

On BIG-IP systems configured to send remote syslogging via HSL using BSD format, if the configuration of use_fqdn (yes), only the simple HOSTNAME is logged instead of the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).

Impact

BSD HSL remote logging does not log FQDN; it logs the HOSTNAME instead. Note: This also occurs for SNMP, i.e., with pre-v12.x software, the whole fqdn is retrieved, and with v12.x and later, only the hostname is retrieved.

Conditions

-- BIG-IP version 12.0.0 or later is installed. -- System configured for BSD HSL remote syslogging with use_fqdn (yes).
