Symptoms

Creating an Azure VE BIG-IP image version 14.1.003000 from BIG-IQ fails with the following error: Failed to generate ssh host key: ret=255, out= /config/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key.pub is not a public key file.

Impact

Virtual Edition creation fails for BIG-IP 14.1.003000

Conditions

This happens when creating a BIG-IP version 14.1 image instance type of "Standard_A4", "Standard_A6" and "Standard_A7" in an Azure environment.

Workaround

To avoid this issue, uUse the following instance types to create a BIG-IP VE version 14.1 image in an Azure envrironment: "Standard_D4", "Standard_DS12_v2", "Standard_DS13_v2", "Standard_DS3", "Standard_DS3_v2", "Standard_DS4_v2", "Standard_DS5_v2".
