Symptoms

ARP table shows entry as incomplete after upgrade to SR-IOV (Single-root input/output virtualization) on VMware. tmsh show /net arp Net::Arp Name Address HWaddress Vlan Expire-in-sec Status xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx incomplete /Common/FW-GI-UNTRUSTED 0 unknown Errors in /var/log/tmm: Failed setting multicast hash table. Occasional tmm crash.

Impact

-- BIG-IP systems experience packet loss: packets are not transmitted by LTM. -- Occasional TMM crash on pccd daemon. -- Traffic disrupted while tmm restarts.

Conditions

-- LTM Virtual Edition (VE) on ESXi. -- Version: TMOS v13.x. -- Provisioned modules: LTM/AFM. -- The BIG-IP is using SR-IOV on VMware. -- Juniper routers are used together with BIG-IP systems.
